Wednesday April 4 th, 6:15 pm
Room 1420, UCLA School of Law
Dinner will be served

Lodi, CA - a small agricultural town in Northern California that, in 2005, was the site of a massive FBI anti-terrorism campaign that ended up fracturing the lives of two Pakistani men who were accused of engaging in terrorist activities based on little to no evidence.  The government later retracted its accusations, but the effect on the community in Lodi has been more than permanent.  Come join us as we discuss the Lodi case, its aftermath, and other critical issues facing immigrant communities in California.

Invited Speakers:
The Honorable Bruce Eeinhorn
Judge Eeinhorn currently serves as a U.S. Immigration Judge in Los Angeles.

Professor Khaled Abou El Fadl, UCLA School of Law
Professor Abou El Fadl currently teaches Law and Terrorism and has served as an expert witness for many terrorism cases.

James Wedick, Wedick & Associates
In 2005, Wedick joined the legal defense team representing two Lodi, CA men charged with making false statements and supporting terrorist activities. After reviewing the Lodi evidence, Mr.Wedick became an outspoken critic of the investigation citing shoddy FBI interrogation tactics, lack of corroboration, and a mishandled FBI informant.  Mr. Wedick's criticism of the government's case also became the subject of a PBS Frontline documentary titled, "ENEMY WITHIN" that aired in October 2006. At the conclusion of the Lodi trial, he secured juror affidavits suggesting misconduct contributed to the guilty verdict—including a juror's deceit at voir-dire, racial bias, and outside influences as affecting jury deliberations—providing the defense team with critical information in seeking a new trial in a rule 33 motion.

Hamid Khan, South Asian Network (SAN)
Mr. Khan is the Executive Director for SAN and has served as an advocate for the South Asian Community in the Los Angeles area for over 10 years.  He will serve as the moderator for the event.

Co-sponsored by the South Asian Law Students Association, the Muslim Law Student Association and the Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law
